Bollywood director Vipul Shah’s love for theatrical plays are well known. Almost every masterpiece from the director’s hand has been enacted on stage before. So this year too, Vipul Shah refuses to ignore the norm that he has made a habit with himself.
The director’s Diwali release Action Replayy is all set to hit screens across India and Vipul Shah explains why it took him so long to make a film, the script of which had been with him for years now.
Vipul Shah had initially penned the Action Replayy script in the year 1994 to hit stages in Gujarat. However, when it came to presenting the script on celluloid, Vipul Shah reportedly ran short of funds required to make a film in Bollywood and this is precisely why it took him more than 10 years to come up with the film version of Action Replayy.
While it was his own play that Shah converted to cinema as Aankhen for the big screen, the director’s second outing in Bollywood with Waqt was an adaption of an Aatish Kapadia play. And theatre, admits the director has always been his first love, in spite of the fact that Bollywood has showered on him much respect and love.
After Action Replayy, it is theater again for Vipul Shah. He has started work on his next play with wife Shefali Chaya in the lead role.
