When Amitabh Bachchan flew to Delhi to launch the
20th edition of Limca Book of Records at Indian Habitat Centre on Tuesday
evening, predictably, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai stayed
close behind. Dressed in a shimmering velvety suit, Bachchan senior took to the
stage while Abhi-Ash cheered for Pa from the front row. Aishwarya was dressed in
a simple chikan suite with sequin work and Abhishek — looking inches thinner and
refreshingly different with a clean shaven face — wore a black sherwani. As the
audience craned their necks to get a better glimpse of Big B’s every move under
the arc lights, he mouthed his usual, self-deprecating lines, “I’m deeply
honoured to be here and I’ve always believed that it’s the people of our country
who have given me the inspiration.”
Some of the personalities sharing centrestage with him were G Madhavan Nair,
chief of Indian Space Research Organisation and photographer Raghu Rai. The
evening progressed to some spirited performances of Bharatnatyam on Wheels by
Sallauddin Pasha and his troupe.
