There were reports last year that Mallika Sherawat and Barbara Mori bonded superbly when they found themselves shooting at the same studio and became great buddies.
But the truth was that the Mexican actress was flummoxed by the very name and couldn’t even recall the name of the Murder heroine!.
What is common between Mallika and Barbara is director Anurag Basu. Murder was a big hit and Mallika became a sex symbol after that movie because love scenes and sexuality have been one of Anurag’s specialities as Barbara Mori should know by now after working with him in Kites.
“Anurag told me about his cancer before we started working on Kites because I also had cancer. I had uterine cancer three years ago. But now I’m completely okay,” adds Barbara. Barbara had a unique way of facing such a harsh medical report early in her life.
My cancer was detected early because I regularly go to the gynecologist for checkups. My mother has cancer, my uncle has cancer. So it is genetic. Luckily my cancer disappeared with surgery. Now I have checkups more often to make sure it doesn’t come back.
Barbara may not have any new films lined up, but she’s been busy with a couple of other projects. Barbara Mori was only too ready to take up Namrata Singh Gujral’s offer to be part of the film that also features Olivia Newton-John and Lisa Ray, among other stars. “She invited me to be part of the commentary because I am a cancer survivor. It was really touching to be part of this project. It will create consciousness in the woman to take care of herself, to go to the doctor to get herself checked,” she said.
